The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Uganda is the government body responsible for managing the country’s international relations and diplomatic affairs. It plays a vital role in representing Uganda’s interests abroad and ensuring that Ugandans living outside the country remain connected, protected, and supported.

For Ugandan citizens in the diaspora, MoFA provides a range of essential services and support, including:

  • Consular Services: MoFA, through its embassies and consulates, assists Ugandans abroad with passport renewal, visa services, authentication of documents, and emergency travel documents.

  • Protection and Welfare: The ministry works to safeguard the rights and welfare of Ugandan nationals abroad, including legal assistance, repatriation in cases of crisis, and support in distress situations.

  • Engagement and Representation: MoFA engages with Ugandan diaspora communities to strengthen ties with their home country. It encourages participation in national development through investments, knowledge exchange, and cultural diplomacy.

  • Policy and Advocacy: The ministry advocates for policies that benefit Ugandans abroad, ensuring they are part of the broader national agenda through diaspora policies and partnerships.

  • Diaspora Development Programs: MoFA facilitates platforms and initiatives that allow the diaspora to contribute to Uganda’s growth, including investment forums, remittance channels, and skills transfer programs.
